At Everette's career coaching service, each interaction is uniquely tailored to address the specific needs of every individual. Utilizing established design-thinking methodologies, Everette streamlines the often stressful and uncertain process of career exploration.

Rather than focusing solely on discovering "passion," Everette recognizes that identifying one's passion can be a complex and lengthy journey. Instead, he guides clients through a process of self-discovery, helping them understand their core values, skills, interests, and workplace preferences. By aligning these personal attributes with potential career paths, clients gain clarity and direction in shaping their professional lives.

The Process: Finding Fit.


Step 1: Clarify

Embarking on the journey of self-discovery, clients delve into the "Clarify" phase. Through a series of self-assessment exercises, many times including the PathwayU online career program, CliftonStrengths assessment, and various values and purpose exercises, clients gain valuable insights. From the data , clients distill their data into a set of design criteria—a picture of their ideal outcome, without yet knowing the solutions.

Step 2: Explore

In the "Explore" phase, clients expand their horizons across the dimensions of work, love, play, and health—the essential elements of a "meaningful life." Encouraging collaborative brainstorming, Everette assembles a team of the client’s colleagues to facilitate idea generation. From a pool of possibilities, clients pare down options to 2-3 promising paths.

Step 3: Prototype

Transitioning from exploration to action, clients embark on the "Prototype" phase. Through small-scale experiments, clients evaluate the appeal of prospective career paths, assess their existing skill sets, and chart pathways to employment. A cornerstone of this phase is the prototyping conversation—a direct dialogue with practitioners in the field. Complemented by hands-on experiences like projects and internships, clients gain firsthand insights into potential career trajectories.

This iterative process continues until clients discover a seamless "fit" with their ideal career. Now armed with “Focus,” clients can start the search.

Next, The Search and Attaining Your Goals

Upon honing the client's focus, attention shifts towards the job search process, emphasizing the development of a distinct personal brand and the power of networking. Since around eighty percent of available jobs never get posted on job boards (what we call the “hidden job market”), networking with hiring managers is the most successful approach to finding these jobs.

The emphasis on "prototyping conversations" during the initial stages equips clients with the essential skill of identifying and engaging with relevant connections. Leveraging my extensive network, I guide clients to initiate effective networking strategies.

Successful networking hinges on the clarity of one's purpose and the articulation of their personal brand. Collaboratively, I assist each client in uncovering their core identity and crafting compelling narratives that underscore their value proposition to potential employers.
